about

One of my favourite Fringe Division songs (originally titled Devil's Ruin). When I went into this it was a guitar + vocal track. Similar to the intention of the album. This one was to play the acoustic + keep it sparse, but, again, we heard something else when we listened to the basic track.

Craig laid some e-bow down which really gave this a mood… a vibe that was dark + kept it engaging. Kevin was happy to lay down a bass track + we tracked it on the final day of recording at Craig's (the first time I had met Kev in a number of years!). I heard some fuzz guitar in there when listening to the unmixed track a few days later + Craig got to work on that.

The fuzz guitar is excellent + I particularly like how that texture adds to the song from the moment it's introduced.

"I deliberately tried to avoid going too 'shreddy' and used a tone that I'd normally avoid...but it's stereo guitars, reversed on alternate chord changes on each channel and panned hard left & right to give a pseudo panning effect."

It's quite a meandering number, but Craig's guitar work throughout really shines. Again, he understood the song.

lyrics

you’ve run circles round me
with your wicked tongue
i’ll cast the first stone
watch your world come undone

this handful of nails is gonna close your mouth for good
and let the reep what thee have sown

i stand here as i am
my heart on my sleave
you held out your hand for more taking advantage of me

i called you brother you challenged the right to my throne
and let the reep what thee have sown

i crossed barbed wire to get back home
i ralied against you to reclaim my throne

i’ll cut you down. break your hold. i’ll take your eyes.
and let thee reep what the have sown

my hands shake as my heart grows week
i wont let go of this
i wont look awy

as flames consume us both know that I have won
and let the reep what the have sown
and let the reep what the have sown
and let the reep what the have sown
and let the reep what the have sown
