about

This was one of the final batch of songs I brought into The Doubters in the months after Pray for Rain. For one reason or another it never quite clicked and I had been reworking it to make it sound more like a sparse acoustic number.

It was the sparse skeleton track that I had sent to Craig initially. The guitar and vocal take didn't quite have the right balance + we discussed adding a bit more grit to the guitar. When it was clear that what Craig + I were doing had verged off of the voice + guitar path... well, we thought a big alt-rock number wouldn't feel too out of place. We tracked an additional (heavier) guitar.

Again, Kevin laid down the bass track at his home and it really fitted the song perfectly. I love what Craig added to this one, too - his guitar in the chorus is outrageous... almost Afghan Whigs-esque. Definitely one of my favourites here.

lyrics

Somewhere along the line
I lost myself
You said I was fine
I’m just out of luck

I’m sorry that I didn’t pay attention
To what you said
When you said…
I'm a dinosaur

Somewhere along the line
I lost my mind
You said I was fine
just a little out of love
I’m sorry that I didn’t pay attention
To what you said on the stairs

I’m sorry that I didn’t pay attention
To what you said
When you said…
I'm a dinosaur

all of the little things I've ever broken
all of those little words I've ever spoken
all of the things that I have ever taken
all of the times you said that I'm a dinosaur

Somewhere along the line
I tripped and fell
You said I was fine, just a little bruised
I’m sorry that I didn’t pay attention
To what you said before you left

I’m sorry that I didn’t pay attention
To what you said
When you said…
I'm a dinosaur
